2 Different Visions of Our Future

    January 13th, 2007

Read Bruce Schimmel’s article arguing that the PennPraxis waterfront development process evolve two plans for the river- one with, one without casinos. At this point, there are reasons to hope that the casino slots barns the state is determined to foist, without serious contemplation as to the irrevocable impacts they bring to close by neighborhoods and an existing 45,000 job port industry, will be kicked out of Philly by a pissed off citizenry. If PennPraxis is truly interested in a community-driven process, then it needs to recognize that the community wants a riverfront without casinos. Being an honest broker in the situation works both ways. Citizens demand that the city be developed with their interests in mind. It’s not an outrageous demand.
