No Foxwoods
Neighbors Say No!
Foxwoods Casino presented their proposal for the South Delaware Avenue site at the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) Tuesday November 14th. I was there to hear them out. Foxwoods fell short when answering a few key questions:

I-95 Ramp - Who will pay for the proposed I-95 ramp cutting through the Pennsport community? Foxwoods said that it's a tricky solution but they never gave an answer.

Neighborhood Traffic - How will the surrounding communities deal with the traffic increases in their neighborhoods? Foxwoods believes that adding an I-95 ramp into a community will cut down on some of the problems. They also claim that all other problems created by traffic traveling through neighborhood streets (to avoid the gridlock on Delaware Avenue) can be worked out after awarded the casino license when nearly 7 million visitors patronize this site.

Opposition vs. Support - There are 8 communities surrounding this site in complete opposition. Who are the businesses that wrote letters of support? Father Gary from Church of Annunciation, Kirk Brown, president of Dickinson Narrows, and Termini's, along with 2 individuals adjacent to the proposed site. Considering the overwhelming opposition, how does Foxwoods plan to be a "good neighbor"?

2 Potential Casinos on the Delaware - When asked if Foxwoods traffic assessment covers the potential impact of 2 casinos on Delaware Ave., They responded that traffic from the 3 potential sites on North Delaware will not affect Southern Delaware Ave. because traffic will not go past the Ben Franklin Bridge. However, all 3 northern sites guide traffic to the southbound I-95 exit at Morris Street. How will the combined traffic effect Delaware Avenue and the surrounding communities?

Employee Parking - Foxwoods claims Phase 1 employee parking will be on site. Where will they relocate employee parking in Phase 2 and 3? Will they use the neighborhood for its off-site parking by building lots in the neighborhood because, as a Foxwoods spokesperson said, "Ya know, parking is an issue in that area." Will the employees also park in the neighborhoods because it will be more convenient and free?

These are inconclusive solutions to inevitable problems that will permanently alter the landscape and dynamic of our neighborhoods.

Please pass the word to everyone you know. Since the local newspapers have not reported the community impact and neighborhood concerns, it is important that we share this information with everyone that will be impacted by this potential development.
