Written by Pennsylvania Horticultural Society News Release

Philadelphia's 5-county region has lost more than 8% of it's tree cover in the past 15 years. TreeVitalize, a public private partnership spearheaded by the PA Department of Conservation and Resources, aims to plant more than 20,000 shade trees in neighborhoods and more than 500 acres of forested riparian buffers in Bucks, Chester, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) is offering a special rebate this spring to all residents in Southeaster Pennsylvania who plant a tree as part of a program sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. (DCNR).

The rebate offers homeowners 25% off (max of $25 per tree) the price of a tree purchased anywhere within the five-county SEPA area. Rebate forms are available on www.pennsylvaniahorticulturalsociety.org or may be picked up at the TreeVitalize display at the 2007 Philadelphia Flower Show and in local retail garden centers and nurseries. Trees must be purchased and planted in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Partners of the TreeVitalize program include Aqua Pennsylvania, City of Philadelphia, Comcast, Fairmount Park Commission, PA Department of Environmental Protection, Morris Arboretum, PECO an Exelon Company, Penn State University, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Pennsylvania Landscape and Nursery Association, Philadelphia Eagles, U.S. Forest Service, UC Green, William Penn Foundation, and county and local governments. More info at www.treevitalize.net.
